Komodo National Park, located in East Nusa Tenggara Province, encompasses Komodo Island, Rinca Island, Padar Island, and smaller surrounding islands, covering a total area of 1,817 km². Established in 1980 to protect the Komodo dragon and its habitat, the park is home to 277 animal species, including 32 mammals, 128 birds, and 37 reptiles. Notably, 25 land and bird species are protected due to their rarity. The park also features vibrant coral reefs with 253 coral species and around 1,000 fish species, attracting divers worldwide.
Once volcanic, the islands host approximately 4,000 residents. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991, Komodo National Park was named one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature on November 11, 2011, alongside global landmarks like the Amazon and Halong Bay.
